That's a seriously determined little girl.

Caught a couple of short comments on the news (NBC "Today" show) this morning:

-her father was a 20+ year flight instructor
-her father taught her "survival" and,
-she "lit a branch from the fire of the plane to light her way."

These were very short comments from TV news, with no more details, so I don't know how reliable they are and what they mean when they say she was taught "survival."

They also reported the little girl is out of the hospital and "with family."

I did some poking around on the mainstream web sites to see what constituted "survival skills".

outsidemom.com/2013/07/wilderness-survival-skills-for-young-children/
www.kidzworld.com/quiz/quiz-test-your-survival-skills
blog.allstate.com/the-4-survival-skills-every-kid-should-know/

It's mostly the same "stay put and signal for help" advice that I got as a kid. But, the equipment list is considerably better then the orange trash bag and whistle we were told to carry.

Poor little thing! What an ordeal to face, even for an adult! She did extraordinarily well under the circumstances. I sometimes wonder if young children are capable of such incredible feats because they haven't yet learned what things are "impossible".
