Considering the Whole Panoply of Good to Great Survival Books that I See in Libraries, Bookstores, and so on, -I'm Wondering just How Many Noted Survival Authors, Authorities, or Other Experts, that we have Among Us?

I've been Wondering on this, for Something of a Good While now.

There has to be at Least Several Dozen Such Authors, Books, and Other Sorts of Noted Survival Experts!, Out There!

Yet Why Don't I ever Read a Post that says something like, -"....As I Say in my Book,...."-

Granted, I have Not Read Every Back Post. But I Have Read Many. And I Think I've Covered a Pretty Good Representative Sampling, of What Flows here.

Or if we Do Not have Such Among Us, -then How Many are at least Aware of Us. I'm Sure that there would have to be at least a Lot of such Awareness among them.

If Sitemates, Are they Present "Anonymously" Behind their Current Username, -or even Purely Anonomysly, -as we here typically understand the Word?

And if Not Present on our Site and Fora, -Are They just Not Aware of Us? Or-

Do (Some of) They for any Reason, -Rightly andor Wrongly, -"Look Down on", or Find Themself to be somewhat Displeased with Us, Etc?

(The Across the Board Excellence of our Site and Forums Notwithstanding)

I Notice More of a "Sense and Spirit of Survival" kind of Emphasis, in Most of the Survival Books as are typically Around. Though There's a Lot of Equipment Info, Survival Techniques, and Wilderness Environment / Conditions Descriptions, -There Too.

We here Have a Lot of Excellent Emphasis and Information on Equipment, -Which is Very Much a Good Thing, -Not a Bad Thing!

While we also Have Quite a Lot of Info and Emphasis on Techniques, Wilderness and Other Conditions, and the Larger Survival Sense and Spirit of it All! Such as our Well Talked About, "Deep Survival" Book, on this Site. We are certainly Not Lacking in these either.

So Central Point here Still Stands. -Do we Have such Well Known Survival Authors and Authorities in our Membership? Or Who are at Least Aware of Us? Or Do we to some Extent Not?

If so, Ruffly How Many? Roughly What Percentage of such All Round "Authorities" Total?, -are Aware of Us / or in our Membership?

If Not Here, -Then What and Why?, -are such Ones (Rightly or Wrongly) Not Here. Or would somehow be Unaware of Us?

They'd certainly be Missing Out on a Good Survival Thing!, in the Event They are Not here!

And we too, -to any Extent that we are Not Aware of, Nor Into, their Often Fine Books.

I Fully Understand and Respect any Feelings that such Survival Authorities may Have, -Towards Remaining Low Profile Anonymous, (Either "Purely So, or via their Username). I'm Not Asking People to Reveal or Broadcast Themselves!-

But I Am Just Curious as to this Matter.

Do our Two Groups effectively Live in Two Different Worlds!? Perhaps Largely Unaware of One Another?! I'm Afraid that I Do, -Correctly or Incorrectly, -Get something of this Uncomfortable Sense and Feeling!

They and their Excellent Works, -Along with my just Plain being in the Woods and Such, -Are So Much of What Got me Into the Field of Survival and Emergency Prep! In the First Place! And are So Much of What Got me Into and Onto this Fine Site!

As I say in the "How Did you Find this Site?" Thread, -I Found This Thru such an Excellent Survival Book, (the J. Wayne Fears One).

I Think our Two Camps Shud be on the Same General Wavelength and Page, -and Not as Two Fine Ships just Passing in the Night!

So What is the General Straight on this? Can Anyone Shed some sort of Light?!

If we Have Such Among Us, -Will They Please Stand Up!? (Albeit Still Anonymously, -if Anyone would So Wish) And Be Saluted, Honored, Recognized! [color:"black"] ScottRezaLogan

We have the active participation of Les Stroud from Canada. Chris Janowski of WSI in Alaska and Mors Kochanski ,also from Canada have shared correspondence. We haven't heard from Bandit Leader in some time. He has a marvelous school for the south asian forests. Peter of Reevis Mountain School has looked us over at my invite. If you spend anytime surfing the survival community, you will notice a lot of cross referenced material. That is my polite term for plagiarism The term "expert' is a sometime uncomfortable appelation. You get called that, and people expect some infallible ubermennen that can use a icelens to start fire by moonlight or weave Zeltbahns out of cattails.

Yes, I have come Across the Four Names you've mentioned, in various Posts.

There's still many other Noted Authors, Etc, -that I Havn't yet seen Head or Tail of here.

But Yes, -There are at least the Four Good Names you've mentioned here. Thanks for something of a Reminder of Them.

Thanks also for Bringing Up that Good Ole One about Starting a Fire with Moonlight! . Though Impossible for the various Reasons mentioned in the Thread, -The Original Question was a Fair One to Ask. And in the Context the Poster of it so Mentioned. In many ways I prefer not having too many “experts” as forum participants. This allows us, the forum participants the freedom to explore and express our points of view, without the idea that the published “expert” will overly critique our varying experiences, skills, techniques and philosophies.

While I do value their point of view, I do not necessarily placed any special or additional value over that of any other forum participant who has explored, tested and refined their equipment, skills and techniques and can communicate to the rest of the forum their ideas. Pete

I value critisicm of any and all of my activities if the individual has a different way of doing the same thing. They may feel their method is better, and after trying it, I may agree, but that does not mean I have to or will abandon my way.

You do have to remember one fairly important thing and that is to never take yourself too seriously or you may feel the critisicm is about you and miss the advantages their methods may offer of an improvement of the procedure.

I could not agree with you more, we all need to be willing to accept criticism in a light hearted manner and view such comments in the positive spirit they were offered.

My only point was that all members of the forum have something to offer, from the newest member to the forum’s originator, novice to expert. My only fear is that when there are too many “ experts” on a particular forum, the group may tend to look at those individuals as sacred figures having to bless every idea and technique. Brainstorming could be stifled in fear that; I must run it by the experts before I give it a go.

Clearly the experts (no””) we currently have, as members of the forum are highly valued members whose input we all benefit from and who hopefully will always be willing to share their collective knowledge and insights. Pete

Oh I Agree with the Points you Make, in your Two Posts so Far in this Thread. As concerns typical, "Non-Expert", Forum Members.

Along with such, though, -I would like to See More of the "Survival Author Body" Present witin our Ranks as Well.

Once Again Respecting any Wish that They may have, to Remain Low Key / Anonymous, Not Wishing to Drumbeatedly Announce Themselves, Nor of in Any Way Looking to be a Towering / Intimidating Prescence in Relation to Other Members. (The Last of these Three being one of your Points, Paramedic)

There are at Least the Four Good Names that Chris has Mentioned. But I've Yet to See so Much of the Vast Body of Noted Survival Authors in Evidence here! Any Number of Them are either Here / Aware of us, -or They are Not. I Again Understand and Respect any Wishes to Remain Low Key or Anonymous, on Their Part. Any of that Remaining So, -I would Still Like Them to be Here with Us / Aware of Us, -if They'd Desire. And I would Like to Have a Basic Awareness on How They and We Stand with Each Other.

Still, Pete, I Agree. "Experts" and "Authorities" are in at Least Many Many Ways, -"Just Other Survivors". Fellow Survivors of perhaps a Slightly Different Kind.

I would Like to See More of Them Here, as Fellow Members!, -No Better than Anyone Else. Anonymously Again if They'd Like. But Here and Aware All the Same!

To at Least a Large Extent, -I just Don't Readily See Their Prescence Here among Us.

Our Two Survival and Preparedness Ships may Pass in the Night. And we Each Make Great Contributions to our Common Field! I'd just Like to See some More Sailing Together, and Less just Passing Unaware of the Other, in the Night. [color:"black"] paramedicpete
