I'd probably add two more things to the list from the article:
- Lifelong fear - not knowing they'd be living with the ever present fear of new health problems, and not just cancer
- Stigma - many lived with the stigma of being a hibakusha (an A-bomb survivor) their entire lives. It affected your ability to marry someone, where you lived, and also for employment prospects. Even today, many residents near Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant have voiced concerns, particular for their children, about the stigma of being exposed to radiation.
