Yes, but Alaska is subducting us, specifically coastal California, just so that you can have some really high mountains...since there is nothing we can do about it, let us at least choose the labels...... Coastal California? Don't you mean "Baja Alaska"?

Please don't Californicate Alaska!
On the other hand, coming up here would help your drought. We've hand rain every day for the last 10 days.

Don't even mention drought! We might step up the pace.
Serious question -I know we are getting closer, but are you moving south or are we moving north? - I have generally assumed the latter....

Serious question -I know we are getting closer, but are you moving south or are we moving north? - I have generally assumed the latter.... As I understand it, the North America plate is moving west, and Alaska is on that. The Pacific plate is moving NW faster, and the California coast is on that. I think the Juan-de-Fuca plate is moving SE, but that's a little plate in between that's almost finished subducting under Washington. I think this is the best map I could find: http://xenon.colorado.edu/spotlight/index.php?action=kb&page=3

"The United States has been lucky. I doubt there is anyone alive today that has seen the CONTINENTAL United States as a battle zone (1865)."
There is the Wounded Knee Massacre (1892, off the top of my head) and the Geronimo campaign, roughly the same time. Don't hostilities against Native Americans count?
US military personnel have been called on various times since - Little Rock?
Only if hostilities BY Native Americans count also.

ASKAR - the solution is simple ...
sell bottled water from Alaska to California. that's not an idiotic idea - it could really work.
you DO realize that while California actually exports a lot of bottled water - the state is in the midst of a serious drought. Furthermore, as far as I can tell, much of our state government is in total denial. Many of our beautiful lakes have been drained to incredibly low levels. And if you ask "WHY", the answer always seems to be that everyone thinks that the next winter will be an unusually wet one. Well, guess what - it hasn't happened much over the last 10-20 years, and some scientists are predicting droughts that could last decades.
bottle that water ASKAR ... seriously!!

Theres actually a guy who runs an emergency evacuation service that gets people outta third world countries that are in chaos. But do you really want to pay him an arm and a leg ... when you could have left at the first signs of trouble?? really??

But do you really want to pay him an arm and a leg ... when you could have left at the first signs of trouble?? really?? There are a number of such services, many of them military contractors. And yes, it's better to get out early and cheaply.
