Hello everyone! This is my first post to this forum (however, I have been "lurking" for some time). <img src="images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> I want to say what a great community to be a part of!

That said, I need some advice. I assembled a disaster kit for my family some time ago (and have modified it in accordance with suggestions from this site). Currently, it is stored in rubbermaid containers (2 large ones) plus drinking water in cases, in our Utility room, which leads to the garage. I need to move everything out of the room to facilitate a new floor installation. That got me thinking, would it be a good idea to relocate and store the kit in my Travel Trailer? The trailer is parked next to my garage. It is stored with batteries on a charger, propane full, water empty.
For your consideration:
My daily driver is the tow vehicle for the trailer.
My wife's SUV and my truck both have well equipped 72 hr. kits (assembled to Doug's specifications). But if she had to evacuate while I was away she would not be able to quickly get the main kit, it would be stored "deeply" in the trailer.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I live in rural western Washington, my main potential natural disaster causes for evacuation from my home would be, wind storm tree blow-down (high probability),forest fire(low probability), earthquake, and volcanic eruption (though probability for it affecting me is low)

Thanks in advance for the help.

Howdy and welcome. I've got a sister north of you on Cougar Mountain and was stationed at Fort Lewis for a while myself.

Not sure I grap your question - is that a bug-out disaster kit or a bug-in disaster kit? If it's strictly bug-in, seems to me the trailer is OK - keep the chainsaw elsewhere, eh? (we had a couple of doozies for windstorms when I was out your way and most of the trees that come down are BIG - as if I need to tell you)

If it's a bug-out kit, would it make sense to make your wife's SUV capable of towing the trailer in a pinch?

Or maybe it's both kinds of kit... If you think it through, I bet you can figure out the best answer for yourself without my opinion.

Regards,

Tom
