What do you gusy thing? Any ideas? Do you like them? Hate them? What about the maintenance cost?

Matt

I have two, one green, one blue. I like and use both of them along with Krills as markers. I have not had to use one long enough at any one given time to get an idea on how long the batteries last. Pete

I keep two ambers in each of my three emergency bags (1 for each of two cars and one for the house). We recently had a power outage and they served well. I've tested the strobing functions as markers, but not used them in an actual situation.

The amount of light is enough to work/read by inside and they are highly visible outside when stobing. They claim a very long battery life, using small 12V alkaline batteries (a little obsucre, but my local drugstore had them when I checked). But I've not used them long enough to verify the claims.

The interface for changing the strobe/brightness isn't very good. You twist a split ring in a 5 sec on, on-off to increment, and then 5+ seconds on to set pattern. But I got the hang of it with some practice. However, I had to keep the directions with the lights in the emergency bags because anyone but me will be baffled.

Pete,

would you use them over Krill lights or it doesn't matter?

I think each has a place, the Glo-toob is much smaller and depending upon the color and model (I have the original - just on or off) has the potential for acting as a flasher (newer model). I like the Krills, (somewhat for the cool factor), but like the fact I can use standard AA or AAA (I have some of the newer AAA's) batteries. The light from the Krills is somewhat softer and feel they may affect night vision less than the Glo-toob, but that is just an opinion. The Krills are also cheaper to buy. Pete

Depending on the manufacturer, the batteries are known as LRV08, 23A, or A23. It's the same deal as with the 123A lithiums. At the drugstore, they're about $5. But you can get them online for about $1.
