Recommendations are not intuitive and the odds of it happening is rather low but I suppose knowledge is power.

1. seek immediate shelter for one hour.
2. move away from blast site to more substantial shelter afterwards.
3. do NOT drive away.

The article speaks authoritatively but without giving much detail as to the rationale behind its recommendations. I also think that the recommendations might be different for someone who is ten or twenty miles away from the explosion.

The article give the source for the comments as a link embedded in the text.
The article is using the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's National Capital Region Key Response Planning Factors for the Aftermath of Nuclear Terrorism (2011)as the source of its information.

I saw this or a similar article on a blog and it had one of the best comments that went something along the lines of...

"I had my roof made out of old school desks, I should be fine"
