I grew up in the South so I can pretty much avoid heat stroke. Maybe. When I moved up north I had no winter knowledge, except those that people would tell me. Not all was relevant or useful, and I had to figure some things out for myself. One big revelation: Driving on freshly fallen snow is preferable to cleared pavement. I had more traction with the snow for turning. Go slow, manage speed, and avoid sudden actions. Winter tires were a godsend. If I didn't have those, I'd probably have died.

True, but once that freshly fallen snow is no longer fresh, we'll all wish they cleared the pavement.
