PS I keep a plastic (shopping or trash)bag at the bottom of most of my other bags; light, tiny amount of space and many uses

Indeed they are quite useful. I particularly like ones with a light plastic drawstring. In light or bright colors they can be useful for signaling as well.

Two contractor bags make a sleeping bag in a pinch. Filled with dry leaves, so much the better.

Except for Blast, he's too tall.

Another tip I gained here at ETS years ago: if you're storing them anyway, and you're in an area where getting wet is an issue, trash/contractor's bags also make great dry bags for your gear.

I always include heavy duty trash bags, preferably the large orange ones here:

I like the idea of the large ones that Blast showed us. I wonder how much a single would weigh and how small it can be packed. It would be nice to find a source for a smaller number of them.

They can be easily folded down to a 4"x5" package. I keep one in a 1qt Ziplock bag.

We get ours (the boat) from industrial suppliers (Petters, Graingers, etc).

my small footprint sleep system in my remain overnight bag, if I must abandon the car, is a 2mil contractor bag for the lower body, and depending on weather, mosquito netting or vinyl coated nylon poncho with mosquito head net on top, propped up against a tree... not optimum, but more practical for my needs in case of rain
