EB green tape was made by Bostich iirc. I grew up near Groton/New London where they made subs. The EB tape was a common item in most tool boxes. With all the cutbacks I doubt they make it anymore. As to the Ordnance tape, wasn't it a brighter green then the OD stuff? I recall using it now and then when we couldn't get the OD.

Went with Gorilla tape, as it will be re-rolled into smaller 'pocket' rolls.

I can vouch for Gorilla tape being absolutely amazing. The plastic bumper on my car had been badly cracked for a couple years from whacking a deer, and it finally broke loose and hung down at the end. These darned bumpers are expensive, it turns out! So I figured until I find a used one in the same color, I'll try this Gorilla tape I've heard good things about.

I taped the bumper back together, and it held together just fine. For over two years and thirty thousand miles, in fact, including two Northern winters! It not only held together perfectly, but never dried out or got crispy or frayed. It was still hanging in there just fine when we finally parted with the car.

The best part was, the car was black, and you almost couldn't see the tape.

Having said all this, I, too, would like to know the best type of standard silver duct tape, for when the Gorilla is just a bit too much.

I put our 25-pound team weight together with Gorilla Tape and it held up easily for 10 hours and 18+ miles in the pouring rain. Gorilla Tape is as tough as nails. Love the stuff, I have 3 rolls laying around.

Ditto what Mr. Ritter said.

The 3m Nuclear Tape is really good stuff: http://www.amazon.com/3M-Performance-Nuclear-48-Millimeter-54-8-Meter/dp/B000NG3ZKI

I always see fairly simple uses for duct tape. But i kinda think that somewhere out there is a true duct tape master ... Who can cut strips into ingenious patterns and do all kinds of amazing stuff. Anybody seen anything like that??

If you want to see the duct tape masters, you need to come to Alaska. This article is by now a ten years old and thus a bit dated, but still rings true: Alaska stuck on duct tape
Quote:
Anchorage had just held its annual Duct Tape Ball. Performers at the Fly By Night Club have been playing rolls of duct tape as musical instruments for 16 years. Pilots use the stuff to repair airplane wings. Dog mushers stick it on their faces to prevent frostbite. And duct tape — to the surprise of no one in Alaska — has its adherents in the criminal ranks. In 1994, when authorities found the body of Joe Vogler, leader of the state's secessionist Independence Party, it was wrapped in a blue tarp and bound with duct tape. No home, car, snowmobile or boat is without it. "Duct tape is what built Alaska," said local filmmaker Laura Bliss Spaan, who is working on a "duc-umentary" titled "Sticking it out in Alaska." "It's what holds us together." Broken headlight? Ripped parka? A bear chewed the wing off your Cessna? The sturdy adhesive is the one solid answer to almost any Alaska problem.
----------------snip-----------------
The Fly By Night Club, which serves up wacky musical comedy and a full Spam menu, was the first to elevate the drab, little roll to musical instrument in the mid-1980s, said the club's owner, known as Mr. Whitekeys. For live performances, the club's duct-tape musician stands at the microphone and rips the tape to a particular rhythm, making a kke kke kke sound. The fall show featured a banjo-vs.-duct tape duel. For the Christmas show, a club organizer built a 4½-by-2-foot instrument dubbed an acoustic wave golden tone stereosonic ductaphone and played heartwarming renditions of "Jingle Bells" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer."

Sadly, the Fly By Night Club is no more. frown But thankfully, Mr. Whitekeys ("It ain't easy, being sleazy!") still does shows every now and then. smile

Given enough duct tape and blue tarps, an Alaskan can solve almost any problem. Up here, we have the Yoda's of the duct tape world! smile

Edit Reason: It aint easy being sleazy!

Ten bucks and a trip to the dollar store can occupy my three pre-teen girls for many hours indeed. They get patterned duct tape and make duct tape crafts, including wallets, purses, origami, and sculpture. Middle Daughter made herself a gigantic Number 2 pencil as a Halloween costume entirely out of duct tape one year. I'm a little surprised that they haven't been buying red and gold duct tape in bulk to build an Iron Man suit.

Perhaps they're not Alaskan in their ingenuity but they're very artistic :-).

Yeah exactly. Duct tape origami. Would like to see some links. I will look around myself.
