For what it's worth, I used to have one of those "SAS" kits that are tobacco tin sized. I gutted it and added my own contents and I was happy with it, but it ultimately reached about 1 lbs 6 oz. It was big enough that it really needed to either go on a belt pouch or a cargo pocket, but in the cargo pocket it flopped around and bounced against my leg which was uncomfortable in practice.
I know for sure I could fit an incredible amount of useful items into that henry tin but it would be so heavy and large that we're not realistically talking about a pocket kit anymore unless you're talking a field jacket.
It would be doable in a belt pouch maybe. But I wanted something low profile. I compromised. Initially my tin was designed for stand alone use, but in reality I would have my EDC in almost every feasible scenario so I decided to make it work as part of a system to supplement my EDC instead.
Purchased two gift card tins from Steak and Shake -- the same width and length as the SAS tin but the same thickness as an altoids tin. It's now thin enough to fit one in each back pocket comfortably and it spreads the weight. That also frees up my cargo pockets (blow out kit will fit nicely in one, and shelter stuff in the other. Bulkier than the original tin, but lighter and softer.
