It makes me wonder whether you need your beacon with you at all times. Recently the stories about people driving off the road and dying (or almost dying) trapped in their vehicles make me realize perhaps even road trips should be regarded as an outing into wilderness.

Very sad indeed. Wonder what he was doing that far from home, having left without any warning? It's pretty hard to find you if no one knows within a 1000 miles where you've gone.
