"The Spy Who Came In From The Cold" was the best spy book I have ever read. The movie with the late Richard Burton was ok, but not as good.

The detail and the build-up was fantastic and believable. Until about the last two or three pages, I had no idea about the twist that was going to be executed. The twist was very logical and believable in its explanation and execution. Sad ending, but realistic.

Frederick Forsyth stuff is really good when it comes to spy novels.

I personally think that you can't beat the old classics - Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. Great <img src="images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />.

While not spy stories per say. I grew up on the Hardy Boys and The Adventures of Tin Tin.

I'm a sci-fi fan. Issac Asimov's murder/mystery novels with "plaincolthesman" Elijah Baley in the books "The caves of Steel" and "The Robots of Dawn" are my favourites.
Wonderful stuff, which I must read again.

I've always enjoyed 7 Days of the Condor with my favourite actor, Max Von Sydow. I am fascinated with the exploits of individuals in WW2. My Coast Guard Boot Camp Chief talked to us about Admiral Canaris, Who secretly worked against the nazi regime. Only a few of us got the message. Sometimes the greatest enemy to freedom isn't another nation, and "All enemies, foriegn and domestic" needs remembering.

Then you MUST see and read "Eye of the Needle"; movie with Donald Southerland.
This is a classic WW2 spy movie. Love, action, gadgets, very good.

Another good one is Ken Follett. All his spy books are great, Eye of the Needle, Key to Rebecca, Night over Water, etc

What on earth am I talking about? Sherlock Holmes? Spy thriller? Must have had a stupid moment.
