Just heard about this. Below is quoted from website.
========
How it Works:
SATcase creator Jim Thomson says the Satcase is very user friendly. Simply insert your smartphone into the case, close the cover and click the latches closed. Install the SATcase app on your phone and continue to call, text and e-mail as normal.
The seamless pairing of these two devices results in one multi-purpose, familiar tool that could save your life. The SATcase is going to be a real game-changer for remote communications and personal safety.
Global Satellite Connectivity:
The SATcase works in conjunction with the Iridium satellite network, one of the most trusted names in global satellite communications. The SATcase enables your smartphone to access the Iridium network and make calls from anywhere on the planet.
Adventurers and workers can now carry a single device into remote locations, making it easy to pack light and stay safe.
Travellers on business or pleasure no longer have to worry about “unlocking” their phones and connecting to foreign cellular networks. Instead, they can rely on their SATcase for global connectivity in order to conduct business, contact family, or make arrangements while abroad.
Emergency Alerts:
The SATcase has its own internal battery, allowing it to offer multiple emergency features, such as the PLB, that function even when your smartphone is disconnected.
When the PLB mode is activated, it transmits a distress signal and alerts The International COSPAS-SARSAT Programme, which provides search and rescue monitoring services.
Overall, this new case has a lot of great features that will further increase the versatility of the average smartphone.
The SATcase is scheduled to debut on the market by the end of 2013. Initial models are only available for the Samsung S III/IV, but there are plans to make it available for other smartphone models down the road.
