I made these bags for storing onions or potatoes. A drawstring at the top of the bag opens to add items. The slits, outlined in red, allow you to take out items without opening the drawstring. Tony

Very nice! I have yet to try your net making tutorial but I plan to when I have the time.

Nice! For onions, definitely. For potatoes I'm not so sure, since they would tend to dry out if fully exposed to air, and would turn green (poisonous) if exposed to light.

Here's a thought: it would be very interesting to see a path from raw fiber to cordage to simple useful nets or netting containers. Or, nets/containers made from scrounged materials such as the line I always see at high tide marks on ocean shorelines.

My 2c.

Potatoes DO store well in mesh bags as long as you keep them in the dark. I have never had any problem with potatoes drying when stored in a mesh bag. As a matter of fact I have had potatoes stored in a closed container spoil because of too much moisture.
I always collect twine and rope scraps when I go to the seaside. Those scraps have come in useful many times. Cheers. Tony

Re potatoes: I suppose it depends on the general humidity. In my area, winters are very dry and this would not work well at all. In other areas, I can see how more moisture in the air would make this a viable approach.
