Bear attacks seem to be a perennial favorite topic on this forum. Rick Sinnott just posted Credible account of Alaska bear mauling -- but not without a few errors, which is a review of Keith Rogan’s recent book “A Kodiak Bear Mauling: Living and Dying with Alaska’s Bears”. In general Sinnott seems to like the book, although he takes issue with a few details, and corrects some points.

Rick Sinnott recently retired after almost 30 years as an Alaska wildlife biologist. Over the years he has invesitgated many DLP bear shootings, and has dealt with many problem bears.

I worked for many years with a lady who had been attacked by a brown bear while on patrol in Alaska. Her companion, the object of the initial attack, was injured. She avoided significant harm by going inert and playing dead.

My understanding of "going inert" includes attempting to soil oneself. Doesn't seem like this would be much of a problem...at that moment.
