bacpacboy and I went for an overnighter at our local Provincial Park this week an tried some I think is worthy of sharing.

I'm a terrible baker at home so I've never tried campfire baking before, but gave it a shot this weekend. I made chocolate chip muffins (the Betty Crocker just add water kind) in an oven improvised out of a cook pot, lid, computer fan, a few rocks and a tuna can. It worked beautifully.

I put a few rocks in the bottom of my cook pot, with a cut down computer fan grate on it, so that the muffin cup would be elevated inside the pot, and then used a tuna can under the pot so it would be elevated above the coals.

Note: I put the tuna can in the fire, bottom side down. I figured it would allow more hot air around the pot. Not sure if it did any good, but figured I'd point it out.

I wasn't sure about the timing so just kept checking it. I think it took about 20 minutes or so, but I didn't pay enough attention to my watch to be sure. YMMV depending on how hot your fire is. It made a perfect evening snack for me, and turned out so well that I made a second one for bacpacboy to have for breakfast.

Thanks for looking![/quote]

Looks like you successfully developed a convection system. By isolating the bottom of the muffin from the bottom of the pot effectively, the heat transfer is uniform.

Congrats on learning yet another useful skill. You did good. bacpacboy must've enjoyed the muffin.
