I'm having to change my 1960's mindset of changing batteries when they wear-out; with LED lights, unless you use it a lot, you may not wear-out a set of batteries and instead the batteries will "time-out".

I just finished removing the alkaline battery from a 1xAA LED light. It was not the simple process of opening the flashlight and having the battery slide out -- it took pliers. The battery was corroded into the tube, but even so the light still worked.

I'm no longer putting alkalines in any of my LED lights. The LED lights in kits will get lithium primary batteries, the rest will get NiMH rechargables.

Agreed. Alkaleaks are essentially obsolete. I use lithiums and Eneloops exclusively.

For inexpensive LED lights that sit a lot (spares in the car for example) I have gone back to heavy duty batteries. I'm tired of leaky alkalines. Top line lights and headlamps get LSD NiMHs.

I just had the SAME problem (twice). I have long standardized (to the extent possible) on AA batteries.

I EDC a single AA LED light. An alkaline leaked and there is now a bit of corrosion at the end of the aluminum tube. The light (mostly) works but needs a bit of bearing grease by the spring.

I also keep a 2-AA light in a tent. This one had a leaky AA that I simply could not get out at all.

I think I am going to keep loose alkalines around as spares but use Lithiums in the EDC light.

I use alkaline batteries in my computer mouse and a few cheap lights but any decent light gets lithiums.
