Hi all. I am looking for a small ( preferably liquid filled ) compass to put in my personal survival kit. I have been looking for one and haven't seen one available. Also, I purchased some sterilized razor blades for my kit and have way too many. Got 100 instead of 10. So, in anyone is interested, I will give them away in blocks of 5 or 10 if anyone is interested. Send me an e-mail and I will give my home addy and if you send a SASE I will send them.

Quality button compasses are few. Most of the forum members purchase the various smaller units that fit onto zippers, keychains etc and carefully remove the actual compass from the baseplate.

Welcome, you can get the Marble compass from www.countycomm.com .There was a thread on this subject in the last 7 or 10 days. Try 3-19, there was also info on a compass from Tru Nord in that thread.

Thanks for the information. I checked Gander, It is Huge, and has the best selection, but not much in the way of a small compass. I like the Marbles, but want something for my PSK. At over an inch in diameter, I will pass on that one. I will try the cut the small compass from another item approach. Thanks for everyone's imput.

I received the Tru Nord keychain compass. The quality is at least as good as the Marble's. The Tru Nord has a much better "floating" action to seek North and the markings ( N, NE, E, SE, etc) are clear. It's about the same size as the Marble's, which could be just a little too big for a PSK. I think it's a keeper for the key ring.

ILJeepGuy: (Hope I parsed your ID right.) I use the Suunto Clipper compass. You can disassemble it right down to the button, or leave the bezel and strap casing intact.

In practice, I don't seal my PSK, but hold it shut with the velcro-based strap from the Clipper. So the strap is outside my Altoids tin, and the compass is inside the tin.

In use, the strap could be reattached to the compass to make it a wrist compass.

Thanks for the input. I already picked one up. I think it was Chris that suggested buying a cheap caribiner (sp?) with compass attached and removing the compass. I did this, it is small enough for the psk, and quite honestly looks exactly like the one in Doug's new survival kit.

Reminds me of the old cold war spy compasses that they hid in watches and shoes and suff.
