Long story short: truck gets stuck, attempts to walk out, guy she's with tries to assault her. She escapes, lives in the woods, gets found.

Lots to prepare for, as can be seen in this story.

Choose good companions, especially in a survival situation.

Interesting how some stories of this type go international and others stay local. Nasty situation all around. Glad the lady made it out.

I suppose the first lesson is that accidental companions can place you in a survival situation. Things can spiral downhill, especially with young people in a "party mode."

The second lesson is that what you are wearing and what you have in your pockets may be all that you have to work with.

I'm quite familiar with this terrain. It's boreal forest in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. In areas with a lot of bogs, the vegetation can be very dense, so it's very easy to get turned around in there. However, it's also a prime territory for survival resources at this time of year -- so much so that military and civilian survival courses are held in areas such as this. There are a lot of berries ripening at this time of year, there are dry areas under conifers, and water is quite plentiful and relatively clean (at least from a chemical/agricultural runoff perspective). There's also some forestry (and forest fire suppression), so a big smoky fire would likely get some rapid attention.

The people you associate with, whether on a regular basis or temporarily, can exert a significant influence on your life, for good or ill. Choose your companions wisely.
