Sorry no pics but fairly self explanatory. I had seen the 'ranger rick' neck kit. It had the top of an old butane lighter attached to it. The thumb wheel still sparked and the hollow of the lighter had tinder in it.

Since seeing it, I had always wanted to try it. Finally got an empty butane lighter to 'modify' if it worked.

I took an empty lighter and was successfully able to light an alcohol prep pad one handed with just the sparks! While I wouldn't suggest this as your primary source for fire lighting, it is good to know. I do know that the prep pads will dry out over time but..... those are easy to come by and easy to replace regularly. Even still.....I don't have tinder quick so I couldn't try that and wanted to see what I could pull off with what I had on hand. I think it went well.

I plan on cutting off the bottom and squeezing in some tinder or pads....

Hope it helps someone.....

Alcohol pads can be useful, but not alcohol pads are the same. Most alcohol pads contain 70% alcohol (the rest is water). But some only contain 62% alcohol. Not a big difference, but the lower alcohol content seems to make them harder to light--- I've experimented with both types. I think PJ and cotton balls work better.

Good point to make for those not in the know. I forgot about that. I'm just excited I got it to work...!
