I saw in an older Cheaper Than Dirt catalog 1000 pound test paracord.It is used for cargo parachutes.It comes in 40 foot hanks.Ordering mine soon.Has any body seen this or have expierence with this

Boatman, I don't think that the 1,000 pound stuff has any inner strands like 550 cord. It looks more like it's one solid woven piece. Can't be sure looking at the photo, but CTD is very good about returns.

True para-cord is also sometimes referred to as 550 cord...as in a theoretical 550 lb. load bearing cord.

Now, I sure as heck don't wanna try that out...and, actually I wouldn't prefer to be dangling from some 550 cord, and I weigh 230.

BUT, it is great stuff for survival kits, and you will find than MANY folks use it for that.

Also, true 550 para-cord has seven small strands inside the outer sheath. These strands can be used like thread, possible fishing line, etc.

You will see stuff marketed as "para cord" that is not the real deal. When putting your kit together, everyone here would agree that you want the real stuff.
