I have this split pea lighter from CountyComm/Maratac:
http://www.countycomm.com/splitpea.html

It always dries up after about two months of storage. I've tried changing the O-ring, applying grease to the O-ring, applying no-grease to the O-ring, tightening really tight, tightening not so tight. Nothing works. It still dries. Thus, it's not carry worthy.

Possible solution...I installed this O-ring:
http://www.oringsusa.com/catalog/product...it26noks59osvg3

That O-ring is a lot more robust than the O-ring that comes with the Maratac lighters. After a few months, I'll report back to see if this O-ring holds the fuel in there. HOWEVER, it is important to note that although this O-ring fits well on the Maratac lighters, it does NOT fit on the cheaper knock-off from DX.com:
http://dx.com/p/super-mini-vintage-oil-lighter-3734

By the way, I put fuel in my cheaper peanut lighters from DX.com about 3 years ago, put them in storage, and forgot about them. All five of them still have the fuel in there and still light up like new. Go figure.

Petrolieum products are very hard on latex/rubbers based products. It causes them to dry out faster.Try and find silicone o-rings instead.Caveat,do not use silicone based lubrcants on silicone o-rings....

I've used teflon tape on the threads of mine, along with the O ring, and it has helped.

Bet a small BIC is a far better performer than that.

The only time I had a Countycomm lighter start drying up quickly I replaced the o-ring and I was back in business. Typically, after three months in storage I can only add a ml or so of fluid.

Is there an advantage to the split pea over a Bic? I know we've talked about it before, I just don't remember.

Split Pea disappears on my keychain. It's like the firestarter I can put there and forget, except for an emergency. That's about the only advantage for me. I would love to have a Super Mini Bic. Is there any such thing?

It's a little bit larger than a peanut lighter, but the Numyth Tohil Lighter is awesome.
