Robin... if you are asking how cold it will make things (how much heat it removes from them)... ice has a latent heat of fusion of about 80 heat calories (not food calories) per gram of ice... that is the amount of heat the system must supply to the ice to just melt the ice with the resulting melted water temperature still at 0 C.. 2 pounds is a little less than a kilogram (1000 grams) (1 kg = 2.2#)... so it will take about 80,000 heat calories just to melt... but we usually refer to calories as being "food calories" which is 1000 heat calories... so your block of ice in a closed cooler can remove about 80 food calories from the products in the cooler)
