A couple of weeks on and the weight has not changed. Indicates that at this point, the container has been air tight and the cotton balls are retaining the alcohol. Might be a decent pack of fire starters.

Alcohol may not be the wisest thng to use. It is sloppy, and the vapors can collect and ignite from an open flame, which if said vapors are contained could cause an explosion.

Vaseline or wax is much safer and just as effective, maybe even more so.

Considering how many places we see it everyday, I doubt an explosion is a major issue in this volume.
As an experiment, seems to be working fine.

Just be careful. Experimenting at home you can get hurt, but out in the wilderness, one mistake can be fatal.

Precisely why one experiments in a controlled environment prior to field testing any potentially dangerous new ideas, products or methods.
Many mistakes, even if made at home, can be fatal. One does not need to be in the wilds for that.
Let experience and common sense prevail, but do not allow them to supress the desire to learn new things through experimentation.
