most of the brick models I've seen don't have the air supply channel underneath
Les, I made a brick rocket stove and used cement blocks behind it and beaneath it to protect the house wall and floor.
The blocks under the stove have holes. They were put flat on the floor and were spaced out about one inch between them, so they do let air through from below the stove.
