If you don't have a personal scanner, another option is take pics by using your phone or digital camera. Then download the pics to your computer and generate a password-protected PDF, etc.

I'm paranoid, but I don't act upon all my paranoia. At every level, a criminal could one-up me if the criminal has sufficient motivation and time. So, once I reach a certain level of difficulty, I accept the risk and keep it moving.
