(Posted knowing knives & cat's rights generate threads rivaling the Mahabarata <img src="images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />.) I've been using www.fallkniven.com the new U2 folder. This is a nice little locking folder using a laminate blade. The U2 is lightweight, incredibly sharp and importantly, takes up @ 1/6th of my BCB tin's interior. I've used it to spark a metal match, shave feather sticks, butcher small game and plant material. It is a step up in cost from a SAK, CRKW and others. But if you like things simple and robust consider it.

That blade looks cool. Is the steel as good as they claim? Be nice if it had a liner lock and a thumbstud. About the same size and with those features (though twice the price) is the William Henry Kestrel in carbon fiber:

It's got a 2.215" ATS 34 blade and weighs 0.8 oz. This is actually my EDC because you can't take a knife on school grounds in CA with more than a 2.5 in blade. With two small children, I'll have to respect that limit for a while. My CUDA Dominator is unfortunately confined to wearing around the garage and yard.

Only folding knife made from powdered steel? There are a lot of knives made from powdered steel. S30V/S60V/S90V are all compressed powdered steels. I am not sure what they are talking about.

The U2 is the only LAMINATED folder using a powdered steel at present. I've had a fun, and very educational email correspondence with Peter. Fallkniven began using ATS-34, switched to VG-10, then the VG-10 laminate and in the U2 this combination. The choices in modern steels available compared to a few decades ago are almost mind boggling. I'm happy with Fallknivens. They are simple, razor sharp, off the shelf tools that work for a reasonable investment.

The reputable online dealers discount the U2 @ $55 on average.
