We've discussed PSK aluminum foil and its... foilables (get it?) here on the forum before. Today I came across a product that might interest those who carry foil.

The survival utility sheet is a 12"x12" sheet of aluminum that is described at 8 times thicker than household foil. I don't know if that comparison is to standard or heavy duty foil. I also don't know how it compares to the foil in a disposable baking pan. Still, I thought someone might be interested.

No affiliation, either with the manufacturer or the vendor EM Gear. I will say, however, that I have bought gear multiple times over the years from EM Gear and have always enjoyed good pricing, fast shipping, and easy returns.

Probably the same thickness and material as MSR's or Primus's reflector which is about 6"x30". They are a few bucks more but a lot heavier than standard aluminum foil.

I purchased the 12X12 sheet only to test to see if it would hold water - when formed into a bowl or cup. I first made the sheet into a large bowl, trying not to wrinkle it any more than necessary or cause much wear to the existing creases. Almost immediately after I filled the bowl with water, the bowl started leaking along the creases. I'd say it leaked less than the other extra-heavy aluminum foils I've tested (about half as many drops per minute).

I also noticed that the Use/Instructions (that came with the aluminum foil) states that if this aluminum foil is shaped into a bowl, you can "Use to scoop water from shallow water supplies." Nowhere in the instructions does it state that it is watertight. I would have thought that if the manufacturer thought it would hold water, they would say it would in the Use/Instructions.

for the compact kits I make, (Altoids and smaller) I use Reynolds wrappers. They're pre-cut sheets and I get hem at the dollar store. They fold up very small and i've used them in the field. Not heavy duty, but they are better than nothing.
