Been there, done that. Those were the days.

You know you're over 40 (in my case, anyway) when you start thinking nostalgically about how innocent your school days were.

I have a dog tag with Name, DOB, Blood type, Allergies, and city & state of residence so that, if my unconcious or worse carcass is found somewhere, maybe someone can be pointed to the right direction. The chain also has a mini Buck lockblade, a P38, a mini whistle as recently discussed in this forum, and a small "spy capsule" with a striking rod and some Sparklite tinders stuffed into it. Oh yeah, and a spare key to the lock that is on my pistol. **EDIT** Oh yeah.....a Princeton Tec Pulsar is on it too....forgot that on the first go-around.

The only time that I wear it is when I am going to be in the outdoors or something. I've got plenty in my pockets on most days to "make due"...heh heh..

I figure that, if for some unforseen circumstances I am down to my skivvies and at least have my chain on, I'm gonna figure out something.

I carry a Photon II, Fox 40, and a compass/thermometer around my neck only when I am in a dress up mode, which is Rare. Normally I carry the lanyard and accessories in a fanny pack that is Always worn, whether at work or out and about. Florida weather tends to make me sweat, so when I have to wear the lanyard around my neck I wrap the accessories with a Ziplock sandwich bag and secure it with a ranger band. The setup keeps things from rattling around and keeps the accessories protected from my sweat. If needed quickly, its just a matter of easily tearing the bag open.

Many people do wear them under their shirts. I am the deputy head prefect, so people get their knickers in a knot if I break petty rules

The main reason is that people take them out of their shirts, leave them out, and they don't really fit in the colour scheme of the uniform. If nobody can see it, then it doesn't cause a hassle. It seems that all teenagers need to rebel by making fashion statements, so now fashion is supressing practicality [end of little rant].

The whistle is similar to Doug's modified whistle :
I was bored, and had the same colour whistle as my brother...

I admit ignorance here. What is a deputy head prefect? We don't have that sort of thing here in the United States.

At the high school that i attend, 13 of the senior pupils (grade 12) are placed in leadership positions (prefect/couciler/moniter different schools call them different things). This group, which basically the student body involved in the managment and running of the school, is lead by the "head prefect" (first in command), and "deputy head prefec"t (second in command).

Basically, i'm kind of like the vice president .

I am always amazed at the subtle cultural diffences within this community, and how interesting it can sometimes be to try and communicate whilst taking these diffences into account.
