Definitely not carried with my keys. The thought of all that stuff banging around hanging from the ignition as I drive makes that a non-starter.

I have a spare key in the car that I use in the ignition.

I avoid this by having vehicle keys on their own key ring ... just the vehicle key & the fob (if applicable). I then carry my other keys & a couple EDC items (flashlight & whistle) on separate key rings. I can still carry it all together using a small carabiner, but can easily separate off the vehicle keys and use them to operate the vehicle without the rest banging around.

Another advantage is that this way I'm also only carrying around the keys for the vehicle I am actually using - in some cases none at all - instead of keys for all I own.

Exactly my mode of operation... Another advantage is when you turn on your car but forgot something in the house, you don't have to turn off your car (e.g., you can let the car keep warming up). HOWEVER, don't try this if you think car theft is at all possible. My best friend one time came back outside to no car.

The only thing other than (three) keys on my keyring is a fauxton light I got free from batteryjunction.com. It's actually an okay light and if it breaks I have a couple more.
