A new favourite is a Spud Bomb ! I started on these recently after reading about them on an Australian forum (BushCraftOz.com). (Thanks to BushChef)

Basically it consists of:

-Instant powdered potato and powdered eggs as the base

-Then extra flavourings and ingredients.

These are intended as a dry meal suitable for hiking and then just-add-water.

I mix about 3 spoons of the instant potato to one of powdered egg in a ziplock bag (you can do this at home).
Then add boiling water, stir and Presto !

To add some flavours you can add whatever you like eg:
- Jerky
- Salami
- Cabanossi
- Pork floss (you can buy this in bags from Asian grocers)
- Semi-dried tomatoes
- Pinenuts, peanuts or other crushed nuts
- Bacon chips
- Shredded cheese
- Crushed cheetos ('cheese and bacon balls' - makes an excellent seasoning and adds some salty goodness)
- Freeze dried peas, beans, corn etc

Then add herbs and spices. Be generous because there is nothing more boring and bland than favourless spud, especially after a long hike. Here are some suggestions:
- Bush tomato seasoning
- Paprika
- Chilli powder
- Thyme, basil or a standard dried herb blend
- Chicken or veggie stock powder (in small amounts - can be too salty if overdone)
- Garlic powder

-Instant soups also make a good flavour addition !
