Popular Science has a nifty search gizmo i just found,the link will take you to the November 1971 issue and the story on winter survival,nothing changed by the way as "how too".
when you click the link the cover of the issue will come up and you type in "survival" or anything really and it will take you to those pages.the main page of this will show you blocks with every issue back to the 1800's and when you put in a key word it will show you issues where that word comes up
in the very early ones "survival" is used in articles about Darwin and it's not until much later that it comes up again as the survival we are into.play around with it and if you like me you will find all the ones your Dad had around the house in the 1950's.

What is most striking about the magazine articles is the depth of the technical details involved.

Reminds me of the old retro TV shows like The Computer Programme series broadcast back in the early 1980s.

It really is surprising just how dumbed down everything appears to be today!
