hey guys. i figured id get a good feeling for this forum befor i jumped in and made a complete ass of myself. so after a sufficient time lurking, ive decided to emerge from my cocoon of self-restraint and make a complete (albeit educated) ass of myself. wise-ass intro aside. greetings all! im Rumbaugh, im 22 male from northern maryland area. i, like most of you grew up playing in the woods. im proud to say that i still hold the best "Frogger" title in my old neighborhood. ive always been real interested in survival and wilderness related stuff. especially the knives, haha. i dont have the money as of now to have as many or as well stocked kits as id like, but i think thats a common mindset amongst packrats. i hope to learn alot from this community, and possibly contribute some different opinions/insights.

Rumbaugh:

I heard a similar quote in the movie "The Asassins" starring James Caan that went, "Proper planning and procedure prevents [censored] poor performance", also known as the "Seven P's".

We used to post this on the wall at one of my previous jobs:
"Positive prior planning prevents [censored] poor performance" next to: "Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an automatic emergency on my part!".
Comments from clients made the boss take the second one down from the wall.
Plus, we charged a lot more for clients that didn't plan, and needed something emergently!

I really hate it when I have to "P" 13 times for any reason.

Try getting drunk on Schlitz (or fit any other beer that costs less that $.33 a can) Ultra LIght. After 24 of them you would pee 13 times and still be sober.

No wonder they say French is a language of love. Frenchy said "hello" and "welcome to the forum" but when my coworker pronounced that for me with the rigth accent I said: "Marry me?".... Too bad she is taken

Oh yeah and welcome to the forum where you learn a lot of handy and useful things (or not).

Hey Pete,

Maybe we Northern Marylanders should start our own "Equipped" club. We could have meetings and minutes and secret handshakes and secret codes....

Or we could just go to the brew pub for a cold one.

I vote for number 2.

Considering how fast the area is developing, it won't be long before there isn't any wilderness in MD to practice our skills.

Welcome to the forum Rumbaugh!

Greg

Hey Greg, et al-

Actually, I was thinking of something along the idea of a “survival” weekend, here in the Maryland area. I believe, unfortunately after the fact, that the Primitive Skills Society had a program up in the Thurmont area one year. I do not know if they rotate around the country, but I was thinking, why not have something similar. The idea would to have volunteer instructors come and present topics on a combination of traditional skills, contemporary skills and manufactures/suppliers of survival products. It is just an idea at this point but depending upon my available free time, I may try and put something together. Pete

i fully support a lil seminar weekend. ive been trying for a while to convince friends of mine to come out and play in the woods. they never wanna take me up on it. ill be the first to tell you that i am "amateur" incarnate, but im pretty durn responsible and most definetly humble enough to listen to those that have B.T.D.T. i think my email is attached, if not =====> harcokid13@hotmail.com (and im in the harford county area)
