hope I got the posts right. Cree flashlights from citipower (china). I got SEVERAL of the 2 types. The small one runs off 1 AA battery and has bright, dimmer and strobe. The other one Q9 I believe is bigger and takes 3 aaa batteries but is the brightest lamp Ive ever owned. For aprox $8 and free shipping you cant go wrong,I gave several away as gifts. Very cool and good qualith. Oh the beam size is adjustable too.

Wow, that's inexpensive. I'd like to see Fenix (also China) come down on their prices. The price difference is way too much.

Citipower got the clip right on that AAA flashlight. Is it lightweight enough to put on the bill of a cap? Also, the published dimensions show these two flashlights are the same diameter. Is that correct?

over the years I've picked up several of the SureFire G2 lights off the prize table at shooting competitions, unfortunately they have incandescent bulbs, so with a reference from another forum... so took a chance, and ordered a couple of inexpensive LED modules... just received an order from Solar Force (Hong Kong) the SureFire G2 and 6P lights...got a couple of the 320 lumen modules... not as much brass heat sink as my Malkoff but pretty inexpensive... also got a flashlight body...took about 2 weeks to get here..... in case anyone is interested

no the single aa is smaller about as long as a bic lighter and about as big around as a wine bottle cork. They also have just bright/off ones too if that suits you.

The 3 aaa one is about as long as a minimag but about as round as your standard small LED types. These lights use an SMD wafer thats the next step up from leds. if you focus the beam tight you get a spot pattern that looks like a piece of toast. This is the wafers shape. Adjust the beam and it grows but loses intensity.

They are great for the price and you'll never want LED again. I purchase about 10 of each to pack or give away

The big one could be affixed to a hat I reckon, but the little one would be better.

7 watts? That won't do 400 lm for long.

On the first, no way are you going to draw 7W out of an AA and I'm not sure it's safe in a Li-ion 14500 cell - that's a 2.5C draw. You really don't want to stress Li-ion cells.

On the second, 3 AAA's are not going to produce 7W but a Li-ion 18650 can do it safely. However 7W way too much heat on the LED without more aggressive heat-sinks than I see.

I'd expect that in the real world they'd deliver less than 150-200 lm. Good price regardless.

Some of those Chinese lights are a decent deal. They are nowhere near the quality of some of the more expensive lights, but they are high enough quality to be perfectly serviceable. And they are dirt cheap.

But you have to remember that these lights are advertised using "Chinese specs". So when they say "7 watts", they really mean "1.5 watts". Similarly, "400 lumens" equates to "115 lumens". You should also expect the hardware to wear out farily rapidly. Switches, stuff like that, on these Chineses lights do not last for long. Heat sinking of the high power LEDs is usually substandard, causing premature failure. Expect a year or two of service, that's about it.

But once you learn to ignore the ridiculous and outright impossible performance claims, and understand the limited lifetime of these Chinese lights, you often find that they are dandy little lights for the low price you have to pay for them. I have a couple myself and I was happy with them (until they died). I now have much higher quality 4Sevens lights and Olights, but these replacement lights cost quite a bit more than the inexpensive Chinese ones. For someone who is not a Flash-a-holic, I recommend the Chinese lights that get good ratings (not all of them do).

I didn't see one with just an on/off switch. It must be a different seller?

Thank you for the heads up. I bought a bunch of the first flashlight in the original post for Christmas gifts. It seems to have a high quality/price ratio. I also bought a couple to throw in my cars. It's too big for me to carry everday, but I'll be a rock star to the people receiving it as a gift. I bought from DX.com where they have 5 different colors, for example...

Anyone have any less expensive US-made pocket flashlight preferences?
