Just my 2 cents worth here but has anyone thought about carrying the small spongey ear plugs in their PSK. It is a dual purpose item, first they are good for there intended use. And secondly for catching fish, rip a piece off it and thread on a hook and presto; dinner. I dunno about in the states but here in oz alot of fishing holes and creeks in remote areas aren`t usually fished, so fish don`t see alot of brightly coloured items. Even aluminium foil works too.
Just my opinion as I carry a pair in my PSK and they take up [email]F@#k[/email] all room.

I had not thought of using bits of the foam ear plugs as bait, but then I'm not much of a fisherman. I have two neon yellow/pink foam ear plugs in my PSK fishing kit, but I had intended to use them as bobbers while patiently waiting for dinner to take the hook.

There's been considerable discussion of these plugs. Search the forum & see what pops up. Just remember to set it for all dates.

I keep several pair in my truck, for multiple reasons. One use someone else pointed out is for use in an evacuation/shelter scenario, where you are in a community shelter (for what ever reason) & need to sleep. They'll help cut down the ambient noise. A sleeping mask is a possible item, too--though in a BOB, not a PSK. <img src="images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

You'd have to be very trusting of the people you are sharing this shelter with or at least have a trusted loved one or friend watching over you while you slept.

I recall one of the other members saying they were considering a Coleman style cooler with wheels for their 72 hr. BOB which might be spent in a communitiy shelter. I would most definitely want a lockable, strong case like the Pelican line of products that will accomadate a large lock.

I don't smoke, never have, but if I assembled a 72 hr. BOB, I would put in cigarettes, extra sugar, toilet paper, and coffee. Then you would have some major bargaining power at the site for those that were not prepared. Just think, you could drive to the site in a Corolla and drive home with a Mercedes. <img src="images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I can speak from expirience on the power of tobacco. I have not been to a shelter ever, but I have seen entire plans change and decisions be made that changed a particular course of action just by giving someone a cigarette or two. Just remember, that cig's do have a shelf life and you will need to replace them!

You'll note that I didn't say it was something I planned to use them for, just that it was a possible use! I agree with you 200%. Around here, I can't envision a possibility where we'd need to evacuate to such a shelter. There's enough family & friends scattered about to preclude the need.
