At 2100 eastern, the History Channel program "Tactical to Practical” is going to have a segment on “Survival training”. Here is the write-up on it:

Quote:
Survival in war isn't just about dodging bullets, but keeping alive in extreme conditions. Explorers and adventurers also face life-threatening situations. Hunter Ellis tests new high-tech gadgets for your next adventure.

Perhaps I'm just cranky lately, but this show consistently disappoints me because of the "blinding glimpses of the obvious" and the shallow "sound bites" rather than useful information.

What do others think?

The show is geared to short 'geewiz' attention spans. A novice might look at an instructor with a neckknife and firesteel make a bowdrill fire and think "Wow, I'm going to do a websearch." They find ETS and soundbites become marathon threads . They also get me and Doug instead of Hunter Ellis with his leather flightjacket smiling like a gentleman's Quarterly model and reminding us he flew a F14 Oh well, Susan and Jess think we are good looking

I haven't watched this show before. I'm more of an R. Lee Ermey fan.

Anyway, I was pretty disappointed with the show. I don't think anyone here would learn anything from it.

I watched the show a couple of times and decided that it was a total waste. The Gunny, on the other hand, is informative (most of the time anyway) and entertaining (always)...
