Usually the "walking dead" is used for the z-species , however, I think some real people deserve the description. They are people who have been pulled away from danger and then insist to go back and get killed.

Sadly, the past few days we have heard news of 5 young guys drowing in some floods in a remote canyon.

Civil Defence declared a flood warning and evacuated the canyon. One guy decided to return beause he lost his cell phone. Five friends decided to go with him . Five of the six guys drowned in the flood.

Even Zombies are smarter than that.

I read someplace that the youngers are addicted to "electronic narcotics". This and a lack of two brain cells to rub together seems to be the cause of this tragedy.

Not necessarily smarts, at least raw brain power, as lack of experience and understanding of consequences. The incredible power and destructiveness of a flash flood is hard to imagine, but it is incredibly brutal and swift.

Sad ending.

Iīd second the lack of experience and understanding of consequences. Around here flood comes pretty immediately after the rain.
I was really surprised when I first heard that the most common cause of death in desert environment was drowning. The danger posed by rain falling lots of miles away is too abstract for actual experience anyway.

Remember that Romero reinvented the Zombie as a tool to describe social unrest and societal differences.

Shaun of the Dead perhaps does this better than any recent zombie movie. Just the opening scene of Shaun walking to the corner market half asleep says more in one scene about society than some movies do in two hours of pandering.

Always said todays youth look like zombies that stare stupidly at a cell phone inches from their faces totally unaware of their surroundings.

The herd will always continue to thin itself out due to people that cant contemplate the simple basics of "be careful" I refer to those folks as FTD or First To Die when the SHTF!

Actually , when you mention the word "danger" as a warning , these adrinalin junkies consider it an invitation !!!

Our civil defence had warned repeatedly from big rocks falling into that canyon. It only made it more popular for these boys.

Problem is, there is no shortage of these. Just a few days ago, four of them were rescued by desert patrol when their TWO WHEEL drive pickup got stuck in the Empty Quarter desert.

If you haven't heard the name before, it is a desert that takes about one fourth of the area of Saudi Arabia ( half million square kilometers ) and described by wikipedia as (hyper arid).

Edited to add :

Though the rescue is good news , it is irritating to know they had to call for help from a satellite phone. So the successful rescue further confirms their belief that you can leave your common sense at home, all you need is a cell phone and you will be all right.

I think it is the lack of understanding of potential consequences that's really the killer. That, and young people in groups are not known to think things through before acting.

An anecdotal story from a couple of years ago. There's a field archery range that I sometimes shoot at. For the uninitiated, it's a shooting range set up in a woodland setting designed to mimic the type of shots taken while hunting. Warning signs all over the place and a fence to keep pedestrians from wandering in. I was shooting arrows at a 40 yard target when a group of teens strolled out in front of the target. Now keep in mind that there's a little over a one second delay between when the archer decides to let the string go and when the arrow slams into the target, and I was already drawing the bow for the next shot. If I been slightly faster, the lead guy would have caught the arrow.
