Had some free time in my shop today and tried a little experiment.
Took cotton balls and saturated them with Petro-gel. (like vasoline but it's "food grade" for restaurant use and in a tube)
Lit them and timed the burn.
Then took cotton ball and unrolled it flat, rubbed gel on, then coated with sawdust. Rolled this up and coated outside with gel. Lit it and timed the burn.
Results--- balls with sawdust burned about 5 times longer than regular ones.
Personally, I kinda like 'em.
Soon as I get the chance I'll try slivers of fat wood rolled up in one.
Anyone want to try Magnesium impregnated vaseline soaked cotton balls?
