Ah!,-That Shiskebab on a Stick (Even if Metal) that I had on my Special and Memorable Patrol Campout in Scouts!, of which I've mentioned in earlier Posts. Age 12, June 1970.

This was also my First Ever Experience with Shisk Kebab, -I Never Knew what the Stuff was Before!

Patrol Leader Brett, along with his Assistant Brad, Cooked this Up!, so Treating us! We had it for Lunch, one of those Sunny Summer Afternoons, -There in our Woods Clearing. It was rather Soft, Tender, Tasty, and Delicious! And a Culinary First once again, for me!

Wouldn't That have been Something to Have Along 2 1/2 Months Earlier!, on my Miserable Rain Soaked Campout!? This Now!, and Early June's Sunshine, -Sure Beat That!

Like a Long Period Comet, (for Those of you basically Familiar with Astronomy), May Spend Oh so Little Time Basking in the Glow or Glory of the Sun!, I So was In my Sun and Element Back Then and There! I Live in Today, but I'm to This, as the say British are Sentimentally and Fondly to their Long Standing Monarchy! I Keep It on the Shelf, but on an Honorable Place on my Shelf! And I'm Properly, but Definately, -Going Back There! Though in various Present Day versions. This "Comet" Plans to Start Spending More Time around it's Sun! Shiskebab and Other such Recollections Bring This and the Determination for It, -Back! As Pres. Nixon said back in that Time to the First Men on the Moon, -It Inspires me to "Redouble my Efforts", -Toward This! I Belong Around my All Round Sun!, Not in Long Period Comet Deep Space Depths! This Shiskebab Recollection Additionally Re-Inspires me Toward This! A Further Benefit Flowing from this particular Gourmet Trail Break of mine! I just had to Share this "Hay", while this Sun again Shone Down upon It! ("Make Hay while the Sun Shines!").

And the Shiskebab once again, was So Nice and Fine Besides!

NOTE- I've Started a New Post and Thread on this, now with the "II" Designation, because the Original Thread Goes Back as Far as Mid ' 03. I Don't Know whether it would be Exactly Proper, to Bring Up to Now, a Post and Thread from that Stretch Ago. And so I Add to It via " II " here. Do a Search under "Gourmet Trail Breaks", andor Look to Back Posts on this Forum, from around June of 2003. Towards Reading and Shareing once again, in Other's Memorable and Special Gourmet Trail Breaks! [color:"black"] ScottRezaLogan

You REMEMBER when you had your first shish kebab? You're starting to scare me, Scott.

O.K. : it's not a gastronomic "souvenir", but a fond remembrance ...

During my third stay in the USA, once the training course in Minneapolis ended, I took a two-week vacation and went to the west coast :
- San Fransisco : god, I loved this town ... and not because you could not walk a hundred meters or enter a pizzeria without encountering a frenchman... I spend three or four days, walking thru the whole city ... Chinatown, the Golden Gate Park (and the first buffalos I had ever seen ...), the cable cars ... those damned hills to climb ... the port ..
- Los Angeles ... stange ....
- Las Vegas (not exactly on the coast..) ... one has to see that, once in his life ...
(yes, I did win a bit, but loose much more ... and at that time to get a US dollar, you had to give almost 10 french francs ... )
- the Grand Canyon : a quick tour ... fantastic ... to ramble in that scenery ... in another post, Tom encourages me to walk in Indian Country, the Four Corners, on the tracks of Leaphorn and Chee .... if I ever come back to the States, I will .......
- Yosemite Park : that is where my story took place ... I will try to keep it short ....

I drove to Yosemite Valley in an rental car and by pure chance (no previous reservation), I found a place at a camping ground.
That took place at the end of august. My only hiking gear was :
- running shoes
- a small backpack, with some biscuits and water;

I wandered about a bit, admiring the valley, the mountains and the waterfalls...
At the end of the day, returning to th camping place, another car (a camper ?) was next to mine ; a familly with two kids, boy and girl, about 10 years old.
After I had eaten my sandwiches in my car, the father called me, to come over to their place, where he had started a small fire.
And then I had my very first marshmallow party !!
The kids explained how to pick the marshmallow at the end of a cut limb, how to place it over the fire, how to let it melt a bit .... Marvellous !!
I spend a great evening, laughing with the kids as my first marshmallow burst in flames ... ... oupssss.... too much ...., talking with the parents...

The following night was not so great : cool, but not great ! I should rather say COLD, not cool ... I tried to sleep, half lying on the backseat of my car.
Next morning, I woke up a bit sore ... thinking about my own car, in France, which had a pull down backseat back (??? anybody understands what I mean .. ??? ) ... and then thought (at last ..) ... "but maybe that car has one too...." ; yes sir, it had !!!
Following night was much better, but still cold ...

Oh I meant Nothing Scary about It! Perhaps you got that from my Inspired Takeoff about my Not Wanting to Lollygag Around some more in Life, and my Wanting to Finish Getting into my Sun! That could be Understandable if One Thot that Meant something Scary!, but It Simply is Not the Case! Don't Mind that a Bit! However it Seemed So!, I Meant Not to Convey anything Scary about It!

Well, -I Guess Anybody Not up here in the North!, -Can Remember Gator!

I Might Have just Missed Seeing one once, at the Kennedy Space Center, out of the Corner of my Eye! They're Sure Enuf Down There, in that Coastal Swamp though! [color:"black"] ScottRezaLogan

It's since Occurred to me that Cliff's reference to "Scary" had to do with his Reply to Maggot, Not in connection with my Post.

I Get both Points. I know where Maggot was ly Coming From, and I Think I know where Cliff's Coming from as well.

There are of course Things one Remembers Crystal Clear over the Years, -and Semi So and Foggy as well! However Many Other Things we just Cannot and Do Not Remember.

As to Remembering Things, -I Go Back to a Thot I had back in my Teens or Pre-Teens on this Area. Which is, -"If you Want to Remember Something, -You Just Remember It!"

Very Simple!, Though I Know in Life it's Not Always Quite that Simple!

But Yes, I Stand Corrected, on Having Missed Cliff's Real Meaning there.

BTW, I just Want to Add, that there was NO Soreness or Taking Offense on my part, at any Point. [color:"black"] ScottRezaLogan
