So lately I've been eating chia seeds as a quick snack to hold off hunger. Apparently endurance athletes and runners have been eating these things for years as a healthy energy booster. Well, I've found they work really well. And much easier to store than peanut butter or almonds cause they're so tiny. They'll make a nice addition to a BO kit. Anyone else eat these things?

Sounds interesting. Stumbled over a last pound jar of Chia at local CVS today. I like their taste and texture. But how do you eat them effectively (feels like a lot is sitting between my teeth now )? And might be not very practical on the go. Any candy bar making recipes?

I have never found Chia at a CVS, good job. I use a coffee grinder and regrind the seeds, makes them easier and faster to soften, you could pound them with a mallet just as well. Most people don't do that. Personally I just add 1/8 inch or so to the bottom of my nalgene bottle, add water and wait 30-60 minutes to soften up. A lot people add a little lemon juice or OJ, something to cut the nutty taste. Most people i know add all sorts of weird concoctions to make it palatable, coconut water, aloe, fresh veggies from the garden, almond butter. But honestly I use it when I am NOT in my kitchen, I use them when i am out training in the heat and fighting off dehydration. so I usually only have water or sometimes I bring single packets of Crystal light to add.
some people mix thick to the consistency of tapioca and others the consistency of like little jelly balls.

I've never eaten them, but I might as well give it a try since I can never grow them on Chia pets! @alex: I imagine you could use them in place of or in addition to nuts in just about any recipe! Your question made me think that they would be good mixed in with homemade granola. Also, since I've recently gotten my first dehydrator, I have been thinking about making some pemmican. I bet you could put the Chia seeds in that too! I found a great article that tells several ways to incorporate Chia seeds into your food, let's see if I can remember how to make a proper link. Just copy paste? http://www.chiaseedrecipes.com/40-ways-to-use-chia-seeds.php

I throw a couple tablespoons into the morning smoothy. Greek yogurt, coconut milk, banana, various fruit, spinach, protein powder, and chia seeds. Surprisingly tasty.

Just an update on my Chia seed experience. I've been eating them before workouts and in between meals throughout the day. First of all, eaten right before a workout, they don't weigh you down at all and tide you over very well until you can eat a meal. Very easy to digest. I also discovered they keep you regular if you know what I mean. Added bonus I suppose. I keep an old pill bottle filled with Chia in my bag for a quick snack. Have water handy when you eat them though as they absorb up to 10X their weight in water.
