I suspect a hoax.
It is no doubt possible given suitable workshop facities, time and tools, but in the middle of a dessert and with only hand tools ? I rather doubt it.

Looking at the photo, I'm confused how either wheel is powered. For example, there's no chain, what an amazing motorcycle. lol

Nice piece of Steam Punk art by any measure. However, regarding the story, I'm not convinced.

Since near the end of May, this story has been heavily discussed on hundreds, if not thousands of other forums and websites and the consensus that while the car>>>motorcycle build is real, the "stranded in desert" backstory this is a fake/hoax.

A little information about the Citroen 2CV, aka the 'French Tin Snail'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=trGz2hD-2VA&NR=1

Its a simple and lightweight vehicle which can usually be fixed with some basic agricultural tools, although not as simple at the East German VEB Sachsenring Trabant, which could be taken apart with a couple of Hex Keys.

The question should be 'why not just fix the 2CV' when it broke down, rather than rebuild a 'MacGyver' 2CV motorcycle.

Is this for real?

I doubt it!
