On a side note, what is the purpose for a civilian to buy olive or some other color that blends in with nature? Is it just preference or is there a practical purpose?

I think that the olive is more available and possibly cheaper, at least where I live.

This site sells 550 paracord, but there are 8 strands in there. So, it may give you a little more strength than the 7-on-3 strand paracord.

Back in "the old days", all's there was was olive. Then came black. At least in the area I'm from. Now with online vendors popping up everywhere choices are better. But there are still those of us who have lots of olive and black that was purchased years ago.
