Suggestion-- 10 or more feet of caution tape rolled up tightly or wrapped around a card of some sort for signalling.
A non-sticky trail marking tape about 1 in wide and blaze or hunter orange. Cut into 3 equal lengths, tie equidistant on a long stick and hold as if a flag or banner.
Or tie a length of twine to a rock and also tie length of tape to said rock, hoding empty end of twine, twirl in such a way as to create an airborne circle.
Doesn't take up much space.

I use this very same idea, but had not thought of posting it. I wrapped mine around a large paperclip and it slides into its own spot in my hiking kit. Mine is actually the neon pink as I found a roll end from a construction site. Thanks for the post.

Take care,

I carry a neon pink tape used to wrap horses ankles. It's part of mt FAK instead of an elastic ace bandage. It "sticks" to itself as you wrap so it can be used for a variety of survial uses were lashing is needed. It's bright color can also be useful in marking a trail or signaling.

An outstanding addition to your neon tape would be a piece of retro-reflective tape sewn on the back of it. It is thinner than a sheet of paper, so it takes up hardly any room. Best of all, it is extremely effective at night.

Each of my PSK's has a piece of retro-reflective film that is sized to just fit inside the lid. Each piece has a hole (paper hole punched) in it to tie it off by. Figured that these could be clipped on a belt loop or jacket when working around vehicles at night and would also be nice to tie onto a pole that could be placed by where you are bedded down or hurt in the boonies. Wind blows them around, they stand out in the day or night nicely.

I was as at trade show and managed to acquire several nice sized pieces which have since been placed in the various family members kits. The film that I have is basically the same as used on big trucks etc. Mine are red and white colored (one color per kit).

The streamers will also work well in the day. Regarding placing the retro reflective film on the streamer, it might be advantageous to place some in an alternating pattern on both sides of the streamer. Better chance of being seen.

Like George said, it takes little room and reflects nicely.

For car troubles at night : I have worked for a - now dead - airline company for several years.
When that company closed down, I "salvaged" some of the high visibility jackets, used when working on/around aircrafts and runways.
And I keep one in the car kit.

And I use another one when cycling at night : if I get run over, it won't be because the motorist didn't see me <img src="images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
