Heavy duty feminine hygiene pads. I wonder why you don't see these in first aid kits more often? They make a great pressure bandage.

Benjammin, Actually they once were mentioned. IIRC my Boy Scout instructor from years ago recommended and carried these items. I have an actual first aid kit from a civil defense shelter dating to the 1950's. There is an instruction sheet for controlling profuse bleeding with "sanitary napkins." The sheet is not apart of the original instructions accompanying the kit as I don't see on the sheet any identifying (official) logo though and this page seems to be a separate type written page. Whoever put this into the kit did so without the blessing of the government so-to-speak.

The most common similar style item to the sanitary napkin is the abdominal pad or trauma dressing. Johnson and Johnson sells them under the name of Surgipad and Kendall sells them under the name ABD pad. They also come in various sizes such as 8” x 7½ “ or 5” x 9” However, there is nothing wrong with using the former in the case of bleeding. Just don’t mention what your using on the victim.

Right, a little discretion is always desirable when dealing with the injured.

Just thought I'd bring it up, as they are readily available in most households, and easy to procure for the kit.

I don't know about youall, but when I am sick or injured, I don't care if you shovel horse manure in my shirt as long as it helps the problem.
