Hi people,

Just thought I'd share.
Since most of us already EDC a multitool (i.e. leatherman, mine is an old SOG Powerplier), how about adding one more function to the tool?
I don't know if anyone else has come up with this idea, but I thought myself rather clever for dreaming this one up..
I added rubber tubing and a separate leather strip cut to size to my EDC pouch. You may have tubing and pouch already lashed together, set up for quick deployment or keep them separate* (see explanation below)
In the field I can turn this into a slingshot in a few minutes, utilizing the legs of the pliers as the fork.
This may or may not give you options in a SHTF situation for catching small game or fish and maybe selfdefense.
So for very little cost and added weight you can add a valuable component to your multitool.
*Also, in most parts of the world it's perfectly legal to own rubber tubing (or flatband) as well as a strip of leather. Multitools are not considered weapons eather. As long as the 3 components are not combined we're not talking slingshots, yet. So in countries where slingshots are outlawed you may still have the option to catch your food in an emergency if need be.

ATB,
Pharaoh.

That's a cool idea. However, I personally don't carry a multi-tool. I do carry a pocket knife.

It never occurred to me slingshots could be outlawed. An Internet search revealed Australia and the state of New York, seriously? I'd like to see the people who made these laws. It's hard to imagine such humans actually exist. I bet they'd also like to ban arms and legs that are over a certain strength level.

New York outlaws everything that could be considered fun or dangerous. I think you actually can't walk outside w/o a helmet and knee/elbow pads.

But, no politics on ETS ...

This is something I have got to see. Post some pics. Both of the packed and ready for deployment.

They're also illegal in NJ. Supposedly the law was originally drafted to mean "slungshots" (which are basically weights on the end of a string or strap carried as a weapon). However, somewhere along the line it got mixed up with slingshots.

I like your innovative thinking.

Here are my thoughts:

Hunting with a modern well constructed slingshot is challenging. Using an improvised device will be even more challenging.

The folding action of the handles might be a problem as the band is stretched and pulled slightly off perpendicular for a full stretch. Some experimentation with technique is in order.

The 'V' isn't far enough from your hand to keep it safe from getting injured upon firing. Again, technique may need some adjustment...

Looks like it's time for testing and video.

Did you actually try and shoot this kind of slingshot.
I think the mechanics are not really in your favor. The multitool lacks the size for good leverage for the use of rubber with substancial strength.
Apart from that hitting with a slingshot requires a fair amount of practice. I would not take the stuff with me unless I could consitently hit a tennis ball from at least 15 yards.
