Hi Hutch,

I'm new here on the forum, but I do have some advice to give as far as meds in FAK's go based on my personal experience.

Like you, I carry a backpack to where I go during the weekdays as well as the wild places on the weekends. I carry the same FAK in both environments (2 person A.M.A kit in a 6x4x3 zippered nylon container- modified ), my meds differ slightly when it comes to my survival environment FAK but their purpose is the same.

I carry Ibuprofen, acetiminophen, and aspirin tablets in both kits for pain relief, fever reduction, and other needs depending on the situation. Sudaphed, benadryl, tylenol cold tabs, nytol capsules, immodium AD, and tums tabs are all carried in my FAK. Generic is as good as name brand as long as the milligrams and coating are the same, and alot cheaper as well. I also carry an "EpiPen" ( ephinephrine auto-injector) in the basic kit. This is for wasp/bee/fire ant stings/shellfish allergy/ latex, etc. I consider it essintial even though I'm not allergic to any of the above mentioned items.

In my survial FAK:

I carry 10 tablets of Percocet ( medically perscribed specifically for my Kit - the sticker from the bottle is in the kit as well - VERY IMPORTANT ) vacuum packed by my Food Saver machine and then placed into a zip-loc bag . Obviously this is for serious pain resulting from trauma, broken bones, etc.

Also carried is Lomotil 2.5 mg tabs - 10 each.. This is for diarrhea. Also carried in vacuum packed pouch WITH LABEL from the bottle.

Also carried are 10, 5mg Valium tabs. This is used for a sedative. Once again vacuum packed WITH LABEL from bottle, and placed in smalll zip-lock bag.

Also included are 30 500mg penicillin vk tabs that are used to treat pneumonia, ear, throat and other infections, vacuum packed WITH LABEL and in zip-lock bag.

Thats the only difference in my FAK's. In my"In the green" kit I carry medications that I hope i'll never need to use.... But , the FAK I tote into the sticks needs to be stocked with at least the minimal meds to do the job..

matt

Hope this helps.
