Why does it seem like people prefer the Blast match to a magnesium block with built in striker? I personally prefer the magnesium and vaseline soaked cotton balls, am I missing something?

The Blast Match is designed for onehanded use the magnesium block and it´s striker are not. When you can´t use two hands for any reason this is an advantage. The operation of the Blast Match is easier than that of a simple rod So people who are with you are more likely to use it successfully if need may be.

I personnaly find it difficult to "shave" fine magnesium particules and keep them from beeing blown away by the lightest wind <img src="images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
I carry a Sparklite + vaseline impregnated cottonwool.
(+ Bic lighter + wind & rain proof matches)
