I promised Frisket that I'd post a pic of my day/day hike pack and since I'm repacking tonight for a family hike tomorrow, here it is. It's almost EDC. I carry it when I'm more than a short walk back to my jeep, and also on day hikes. It stays in the Jeep when I'm not carrying it, so in that sense, with me every day.



*candle in pic has been removed
*bug spray and suncreen will be added as the weather warms, as will a bucket-style hat and thinner top (instead of the wool jacket)
*there are 2 carabiners are attached to the outside of the pack for attacjing a second nalgene bottle and stuff sack/dump pouch for my son's and little Scout's treasures found along the way.

Thanks for the tips, Izzy. I've heard only good things about lithium batteries. They're on my shopping list.

I've been eyeing that silocone stuff for a awhile. Think I might put it on the "Not So Subtle Mother's Day Gift Ideas" list. :-)

RE: CPR face mask and shield
The science seems to have moved away from mouth to mouth ventilation cpr: compressions only or breathless cpr is now standard for resuscitation in a setting where an ambu bag is unavailable. The masks and shield devices never worked very well in terms of keeping rescuers distant enough from the patient to provide protection from body fluid contamination.

I performed mouth to mouth on an ER patient who was graceless enough to arrest while another patient was using the ambu bag-in 1978, our ER only had one ambu bag. It was a very instructive experience. I got real pushy about getting some spare ambu bags.

Anyway, this might be a way to lighten the load.

The only AA and AAA primaries I buy are Energizer Ultimate Lithium. They're lighter than alkalines, last longer in use, last much longer in storage, and don't leak. Highly recommended.

Thanks guys. I think it's the lightest kit I've ever made for anything other than our few months of summer. It's still a little heavy when both water bottles are full, but it rides comfortably. I really want to add one of our homade hobo stoves but the es it stove just fits so nicely. A hobo stove doesn't weigh much but it does take up room.

I've also thought about replacing the sauce can with a gsi cup but I like the higher volume of the can. I can prep three small cups of hot chocolate vs just one big cup.

Me too! I got the keg into my rucksack, but the tapper kept snagging branches.
