Yes, an April Fool's day joke gone bad resulted in a 5.11 tactical kilt.

Pre-order here

I think its for real. And I might get one

SgtMaj Lamb's appearance adds a nice touch...for you looking to expand your skills with a carbine, he is one of outstanding trainers today... check out his vids on Viking Tactics..started shooting his matches around 1996..

I have been feeling the need to get a kilt for the last year or so. The good ones like Utilikilt are slightly out of reach price wise for me. But I really like this price! I too will be pulling the trigger and purchasing one! The only question I have is khaki or OD?

I've been a kiltie for eight years now, starting with a Utilikilt. My favorite is a UK in Mossy Oak Break-Up. These look good and $59.99 is a heck of a deal! There are a few "tactical" type kilts. Personally, I am saving for an AlphaKilt in Multicam.

If anyone is interested, I can post links to these other kilts in this thread.

This one was made for paintball. Looked at RKilts site and did not see it offered still. They're out of Canada.

An ACUPAT from a guy in KY...

Same in Multicam...

There are also AlphaKilts (not really tactical), Freedom Kilts and a few others I haven't seen. Some makers in England use the Denison camo pattern, but they're mostly fashion kilts.

Despite the painful price increase, I like UK's ACU & Workman's.

I'm not a big fan of skirts and dresses (could ya tell?) But I would consider one of these!

EDIT: NOT that a kilt is a skirt or a dress. My Scottish ancestors would roll over in their graves if I thought that. wink

I have to ask,Do any of you Kilties worry about fording a deep/fast river & gettin' a Mae West that could potentially drown you?or Getting unwelcomed visitors,ie. Ticks,Fleas,Skeeters,Mites, etc. whilst hiking the Tall grass or some such? Slipping on a sandy log crossing over a ravine full of Nettles/Poison Ivy/Cacti?or Climbing up a Sumac tree?& What is Exactly Tactical about a Tactical Kilt?

The "tactical" was part of the origional joke. 5.11 makes clothing for paramilitary types, (and housing inspectors like me grin)
As for me wanting one? I explained it to my Wife this way, I'm 40, I don't want a sports car, I'm madly in love with her so I'm not interested in trading her in for the "new model". I just want to have a kilt to wear when the mood strikes me.

I have a couple buddys who wear Utili-kilts for hikes and some adventure oriented races/events. They are $$$$$$. I like them but prefer to put items in a pack rather than pockets so haven't done it. The one thing I do like is that its easier to add/remove running tights (for heat retention and skin protection).

Last year on a ultralight hiking website, I saw a pattern for making hiking kilt based on the puffy jacket/down quilt concept for extra warmth for morning/evening/campsite wear on trail.

I hike in kilts and fish, but I haven't done very much like crossing raging rivers. As much as I like them, they do have limited uses to me.

Of course, many thousands of Highland troops have trekked and fought kilted over the centuries.

I've been debating wearing a UK on part of my AT hike. If I buy one of those TDKs, it may work well also.

He did, but he also would dwell overly long on sexual issues.

Wore my Mossy Oak UK on a hike two weeks ago. Did some bushwhacking and vertical climbing and it did better than the nylon shorts would have. Darn VA thorn vines!

No longer available for purchase! Too bad. I was going to get one for my boy Scout uniform. That would be worth some laughs. I am sure there would be some extreme reaction form some of the old codgers.
